Passive & Active Rehabilitation Programs
When a patient initially enters our office, the first objective is to eliminate the pain that brought them into the office in the first place. The first couple of treatments consist of very gentle chiropractic adjustments in what we refer to as a “passive” type of therapy. This type of therapy is aimed at helping decrease pain and inflammation. The passive rehabilitation treatment programs consist of electrical muscle stimulation, cold packs, hot packs and interferential therapy.
When a patient’s pain begins to subside, studies have shown that the “active” type of therapies will help to facilitate the healing process at a greater rate. The active rehabilitation programs will include such things as stretching, strengthening exercises and traction protocols. These are designed to help with specific needs and goals. Our highly trained therapy staff will work in accordance with the Dr’s. Recommendations to make sure the greatest benefit will be obtained in the shortest amount to time. It has been well documented in literature that the utilization of both passive and active therapies tend to decrease pain, increase healing and stabilize the patient’s over-all condition by restoring integrity to the muscles, tendons and ligaments which support your joints. When these modalities are used in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments, physiotherapy will help facilitate the healing process and increase the benefits that each of these would have independently on their own. Passive and active rehabilitation programs are the cement that helps stabilize your chiropractic adjustment.
Initially upon entering the office some patients may have abnormal curvatures, absent curves which are supposed to be present, kyphosis or a hypolordosis present in their spine. If this is the case an active type of therapy will be employed to help begin to restore the normal curves which need to be present throughout the spine to allow for proper functioning to occur. The patient will be instructed on proper protocols and will be educated on home care so that the healing processes can be initiated. In combining all of these facets of treatment, the patient’s healing time often is accelerated and correction occurs at a faster rate.
Spinal Manipulation
Spinal manipulation or an “adjustment” is a hands-on therapeutic treatment. Spinal manipulation is a gently controlled thrust applied to a fixated point. This treatment is designed to realign vertebrae which have become misaligned due to activities of daily living, trauma and accidents.
Applied Kinesiology
This technique uses bio-energetic feed-backs through testing the strength of various muscles of the body. This therapy is highly individualized and provides in-depth system of evaluating and treating postural and muscular imbalances. This is a very effective treatment which focuses on whole body care.
Pettibon System™
The Pettibon System of posture correction is an innovative and effective treatment program that helps rehabilitate the spine. It is designed to help restore natural lordotic curves and align the spine.
Activator Treatment
Evolved from approximately 40 years of empirical study and 15 years of clinical research, the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT) uses advances in orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations to improve joint dysfunction. The technique uses a special instrument to give consistent low-force, high speed chiropractic adjustments
Traction Therapy
Traction is non-invasive type of treatment which can be performed to the neck and lower back regions. Traction can help reduce pressure on spinal nerve roots, decompress discs and improve circulation. This is a gentle and relaxing treatment modality.
Cox Flexion/Distraction
The technique utilizes a special table to apply a series of repetitive slow movements to decompress the lower back. This can help reduce pain, improve range of motion and reduce intra-discal pressure.
In Office X-Rays
We offer our patients the convenience of in-office x-rays allowing us to immediately evaluate your condition.
